Immunogen: The original antibody was generated by immunizing BALB/c mice with attenuated mutant (SB-RL) of Sindbis virus.
Specificity: This antibody binds the E2 glycoprotein, antigen site E2-c, of the Sindbis virus (SINV). Sindbis virus (SINV) is an enveloped RNA virus of the genus Alphavirus in the virus family Togaviridae. Sindbis virus is related to Chikungunya alphavirus, and is a zoonotic virus that causes disease in humans. It is postulated that SINV cycles between ornithophilic mosquito species (vectors) and birds. Sindbis virus is a Maculopapular and often itchy exanthema over the trunk and limbs, mild fever, and joint symptoms, particularly in wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, are the hallmarks of acute SINV infection, sometimes accompanied by nausea, general malaise, headache, and muscle pain.
Application Notes: This antibody was capable of neutralizing E2-c site of the Sindbis virus attenuated and fast-penetrating strains (PMID: 2417415). This antibody can bind Sindbis virus E2 envelope glycoprotein in an ELISA. In vivo, R6 treatment completely protected Balb/cJ mice from paralysis and death due to infection with neuroadapted Sindbis virus and also resulted in the clearance of infectious virus from the brains of immunodeficient scid mice persistently infected with wild-type Sindbis virus (PMID: 9464526).
