Recombinant monoclonal antibody to Insulin. Manufactured using AbAb’s Recombinant Platform with variable regions (i.e. specificity) from the human B cell clone mAb13.
UniProt Accession Number of Target Protein: P01308
Alternative Name(s) of Target: INS; mab13 S58R; 13G12
Immunogen: The original antibody was generated from the peripheral B cells obtained from an insulin-dependent (type I) diabetes mellitus (IDDM) patient treated with human recombinant insulin, by EBV transformation and somatic cell hybridization techniques.
Specificity: This antibody binds human insulin. Insulin is a peptide hormone produced by the beta cells of the pancreatic islets. It reduces blood glucose concentration by promoting its absorption from the blood into liver, fat and skeletal muscle cells. Decreased or absent insulin activity results in diabetes mellitus, a condition of high blood sugar level (hyperglycemia).
Application Notes: This antibody is an affinity matured version of mab13 created by a point mutation in the variable heavy region S58R. The affinity of the IgG1 version of this antibody for insulin was found to be kd=59nM (PMID: 7995943). The binding specificity of the original IgG1 antibody for human insulin was determined using ELISA (PMID: 2159034).

Note on publication:
Describes the generation of high affinity anti-insulin antibodies from B cells of patients suffering from insulin-dependent (type I) diabetes mellitus (IDDM).
