Recombinant monoclonal antibody to VP1 protein. Manufactured using AbAb’s Recombinant Platform with variable regions (i.e. specificity) from the hybridoma 4C4.
UniProt Accession Number of Target Protein: P15072
Alternative Name(s) of Target: VP1; Genome polyprotein; Capsid protein VP1; Virion protein 1; Protein VP1; P1D; serotype C (clone C-S8c1); FMDV C1 Brescia It/64
Specificity: This antibody is specific for the major antigenic site A (G-H loop) of the VP1 protein of the foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV). It is reported to recognize the amino acid sequence 'YTTSTRGDLAHVTTT'. FMDV a picornavirus, the prototypical member of the genus Aphthovirus. FMDV causes a mild, contagious viral infection common in young children characterized by vesicles (blisters) or sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. It can also affect cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and other cloven-hoofed animals.
Application Notes: The reactivity of this antibody to whole virus particles was determined using ELISA (PMID: 1690261). This antibody is capable of neutralizing the FMDV serotype C-S8c1 and FMDV C1 Brescia It/64 (PMID: 1690261; 10069951; 9420281). This antibody can also recognize both C1 Brescia It/64 and C-S8c1 in a western blot assay (PMID: 9420281; 1690261).

Note on publication:
Various antibodies against FMDV were used to define multiple antigenic epitopes on the surface of FMDV serotype C.
