Rapid Antibody Production for Pandemics: New Presentation

Our CSO Dr. Ian Wilkinson recently gave a presentation at the PEGS Virtual Interactive Global Summit. His talk, in the Antibodies to Combat Pandemic Viruses session of the Engineering Stream, made the case that transient antibody expression offers an important tool for the rapid scale-up and production of diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines in a pandemic situation. It is a well-established technique that, if applied correctly, could make future pandemic responses quicker.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Absolute Antibody used transient expression to manufacture two potential therapeutic antibodies in gram quantities in less than five weeks from sequence identification to animal testing, as well as to become the first commercial supplier of anti-spike protein antibodies, made in all isotypes to act as controls for serological tests. Transient expression has been vital to our ability to rapidly scale as demand has increased.
